Enzyme Replacement Therapy  Relocation Program
King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center (KFSH&RC) | Riyadh, Saudi Arabia | 2010–2013

Dr. Nahya Awada, DocNa  Founder & Principal Consultant, designed and led a national initiative to transition rare disease patients receiving weekly or biweekly Enzyme Replacement Therapy (ERT) infusions from a central tertiary hospital to 13 regional healthcare centers across Saudi Arabia.

The program encompassed training physicians, nurses, and pharmacists; equipping local facilities; and establishing logistical and support systems to ensure safe ERT administration outside the tertiary care setting.

Impact:

  • Created a replicable blueprint for decentralizing rare disease care from tertiary to local health facilities

  • Improved treatment adherence and clinical outcomes for patients closer to home

  • Freed tertiary care beds for acute care patients, enhancing overall healthcare resource utilization

From Insights to Action: Enhancing Clinical Research at The Ottawa Hospital
The Ottawa Hospital & Ottawa Hospital Research Institute | Ottawa, Canada | 2021–2025

As a contributing author and research consultant, Dr. Nahya Awada collaborated with The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) — one of Canada’s largest academic health sciences centres — and its research arm, the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI), on a comprehensive mixed-methods review of its clinical research ecosystem.

This performance improvement project used qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys to identify systemic barriers to clinical research and informed an institution-wide action plan of 30+ initiatives across infrastructure, capacity-building, patient access, and governance.

Progress was evaluated through KPI tracking and post-review survey data, demonstrating measurable improvement.

The project produced a replicable framework now available as a roadmap for healthcare and research centres seeking to build supportive, patient-centred research environments.
